I returned home Sunday October 14, 2018 to a home that was freezing cold due to the power being out since Thursday October 11th.   My first thought was I need to get a hotel room so my family can be comfortable, and my kids can go to daycare/school without my wife and I having to wake up super early due to staying with family an hour away.

All of this was with the knowledge that my personal checking account balance at that point was $6.92. Before I could start counting out quarters to make sure I had the money to put back into the account we use to pay bills our power came back on.

The next day I woke up to my account balance at $0.00.  I knew this thanks to this new app I started using that puts away money called digit (the featured image is a screenshot of the messages the app sent me).

In the past if I was in this situation I would have felt depressed, but instead I was excited.  I was excited to see if my methods of where and how I saved money would work out.

I contemplated selling some stocks we have, but that takes time so with a smile on my face I counted out $200 in quarters.  My plan was to deposit them into my personal checking account.  I ended up depositing them into an account used to pay bills.  I knew we had some bills coming out so my logic was I want to make sure there is more than enough to cover bills plus I will be able to use that account to get by until I get paid.

Well today I got paid, and I know my unorthodox methods work!
